Barn Owl Surveys

Let us guide you through the process, every step of the way.

Barn owls use cavities and high ledges of relatively undisturbed buildings and barns to nest. They also use large unobstructed openings in trees. They need a landscape of arable, pasture, woodland, and/or meadows to forage.

Barn owls are highly loyal to their nesting sites, therefore, the first survey action is to undertake a desk study of available records.

The initial field survey includes a Site visit to check for evidence, such as nests, pellets, and feathers, combined with an assessment of the suitability of the structure or tree to support a nest. If the initial survey determines the presence or likely presence of barn owls, then more detailed monitoring will be required and/or a revisit of the Site at an appropriate time of year.
