Extended Phase 1 Habitat Survey
Extended Phase 1 Habitat Survey
This survey uses the industry standard method to classify habitats and map their extent.
The survey is ‘Extended’ to consider field signs of protected species as well as the likelihood of the habitats to support protected species. It is the standard ecological survey for supporting planning applications.
Depending on the results, it is either written up into a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal or an Ecological Impact Assessment.

About The Survey
Let us guide you through the process from initial aims to project gains.
The Aim

The aim of the survey is to gather detailed habitat and protected species information which will form the basis of the Site’s ecological assessment.
Site Visits

One of our ecologists visits the Site, recording and mapping the habitats, their condition, recent management and species composition. Whilst doing this, field signs of protected species are searched for and the Site’s suitability to support protected species is determined.
Inclusions

As standard, we include a great crested newt Habitat Suitability Assessment (HSA), visual Badger Survey and a Preliminary Roost Assessment for bats within this survey.
|Survey Plan

We produce an Extended Phase 1 Habitat Survey plan which sets out the findings of the survey. This is coupled with a set of target notes, which provide specific details and points of interest.
Purpose

The survey plan is typically used to inform initial decision making and to scope the need for further ecological surveys. If further surveys are not required then the survey is written up as a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal. If further surveys are required, then this survey is combined with the additional surveys and written up as an Ecological Impact Assessment.
